I’ve spent my career in the trenches of the fitness industry — on the floor, with members, watching the same patterns repeat at every facility I worked in.
People who paid for gym access but couldn’t afford the coaching that would actually move them. Premium gyms that charged $1,000 a year for membership and another $200 a month for spa access. Boutiques that treated programming like a luxury add-on. Big-box gyms with treadmill rows and a single squat rack with a 30-minute wait.
Every model had the same gap: access without coaching, or coaching without access. Rarely both. Almost never both at a price serious people could sustain.
The facility I wanted to train in didn’t exist. So I’m building it.
The Standard
The Strength Equation is the answer to a specific question: what does a gym look like if you design it for the member’s outcome instead of the membership’s margin?
It looks like ~40,000 square feet of premium training. It looks like cold plunge, sauna, the Frost Locker, and massage rooms included for every tier. It looks like certified coaches on the floor every day, programming built into membership, no upsell. It looks like a posing room you won’t find at any other club in San Diego County.
It also looks like founding rates locked for life — because if I’m asking the first 1,000 members to commit before doors open, they should keep that rate as long as they’re training with us. No annual increases. No bait-and-switch.
The Approach
Everything I write — the articles in the Insights section, the programming standards, the coaching philosophy — comes from the same place. The peer-reviewed literature, when it exists. Practitioner experience and direct observation, when it doesn’t. Honest acknowledgment of where the data ends.
You’ll find very few absolute claims on this site. You’ll find a lot of here’s what the research actually shows, here’s how to apply it, here’s what we don’t know yet.
The Build
Q1 2027 is the target. Carlsbad, CA is the location. The lease, the equipment, the team — all coming together over 2026.
Founding members get the seat at the table. Build updates, equipment reveals, programming previews delivered as the facility comes together. By the time doors open, you’ll know the place before you walk into it.
The list is filling. If this is what you’ve been looking for too — I’d love to have you in from the start.
